Father's Day

Here are a few shots I took of my daughter in her Daddy's clothes (high school hockey jersey, college lacrosse jersey and work shirt and tie)  I turned it into a collage for her to give to him on Father's Day!

I was so happy with the hockey picture because I had her do his exact pose from his senior year photo...We both had such a good time with this photo shoot!!!

  2. She is so beautiful! How nice to make a connection to her dad... That said, how can we separate the beautiful face that you adore from the aesthetics of how flash on camera directly blasting in from the lens affects the humane aspect of the image? I have a standing no flash on camera rule because it is so harsh and ultimately dehumanizing. You did a good job of copying an unflattering photo of her dad as it suffers from the same problem.

If you are interested in studio light photography, I can guide you, One option is to invest in a couple of umbrellas and lights. A better solution is to use diffuse window light.

The danger in using you daughter is because your intense love for her blind you to seeing what is going on from a more detached, observer's point of view. Transcending family snapshots is the main challenge here...

  3. Another angle on doing your advanced project would be to copy the set ups and lighting of old family photos with a kind of tongue in cheek appreciation for them... and to see how they resonate across time...

In other words to embrace what you just did but to keep going with any family members you can find...

  4. Thanks for all the feedback! I have been reading up on how to shoot in manual mode, and what all the functions mean and can do. I will be going out this afternoon to try it out!
